Attention: White People

I’m hearing one thing being asked of us
Over and over, loud and clear, and, truly, 
it seems simple enough.
Yes, this request I’ve been hearing
Asks that we all, right now, 
“Shut the fuck up!”

It’s really weird you can’t hear this 
your words sound like you wish to know as you
ask questions upon questions on and on to no end
But stranger still, you immediately provide your own answers
Without one hint of a pause between the two
transforming question to rant

Step One of hearing.... is shutting the fuck up!

Can you imagine if Dirty Harry’s famous question-bit went:
“Do you feel lucky, punk? Well do ya?
Cause if you feel lucky it doesn’t make sense 
to act like a savage a thug, running around with your thug friends
Burning your own neighborhood, joining gangs, selling drugs
How will this all end?  I mean, who even does that? Really?!”

No. If you were in the theater watching this version
Of the classic pre-curmudgeoney-Clint-Eastwood-flick,
You’d spring from your seat spilling popcorn and drink
Stare holes through the screen and then scream at the prick

“Will. You. Just. Shut the fuck up!”

Which is just what I do 
scrolling through my news feed
Coming across that quote 
(more than just once)
“Will you ook at these thugs! MLK is rolling in his grave!” 

Fucking. Really?!

Yearly you lather yourself up in SPF 50 for a “break from it all”
That much needed winter vacay in the sun 
And YOU feel completely all right speaking for
Doctor Martin Luther King Jr?

Speaking not only of how he felt then.  No, no no..
You… Yes, YOU
You are so fucking brilliantly and empathetically intuitive
That YOU are able to inhabit his imagined-future emotions?!

You are just sure how he’d feel 47 years after his murder
When gazing upon the shocking, unforgiveable sight
Of that very same struggle for which he traded his life
Yes it’s still in full swing as if just minutes had passed.
And YOU, you’re here to scream his voice from the mountain
Or climb the ship’s mast.  Announce his message to the world
Without any trace of doubt, Nope. 'Tis gospel 'tis true
That Dr MLK’s disappointed and
disgusted with just who?

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please!
Kindly just shut the fuck up!

 Yes, you know what, I hear ya, agreed.  Yep, you're right

So starting now I will not engage wasting any more time
Trying to get you to listen. Trying to mend broken minds

Instead from now on when I try but cannot fight back the urge
I'll simply shut the fuck up and share one of the many voices I've heard

Now…  All you need to do....
Is shut the fuck up
And listen.

The Ending of 'The Sense of an Ending' by Julian Barnes: What the Hell Just Happened?

SPOILER ALERT!!!  This is not a review and if you have not read this book (you really should btw) the following will entirely ruin the novel for you. So I was assigned this book for a course - truly enjoyed the read and pretty much accepted what I was told by the narrator and walked away satisfied for the most part. During the following class meeting, there was a heated debate concerning who were the actual parents of young Adrian.  Knowing I had a final paper to write on the novel (or novella, apparently there's a heated debate over this) I thought it wise to give the book a second read. For some reason I read it backwards ten-page chunks at a time.  If you never have done this I highly recommend.  Taken out of the context of the plot, passages read entirely differently.  Anyway, without looking for it I came upon a curious theory which soon snowballed leading to more and more unexpected and shocking discoveries.  For a few days there I became obsessed. A Valuable Technique Regarding The Parenting Of Twin Toddlers: The Zone Defense  For quite some time I knew nothing of this useful parental tactic.  Instead of running it, I went with more of a "corral method", in which I'd spend much of my time bent in half, hunched over awkwardly -- uncomfortably, keeping my miniature herd of offspring in the same locale as they struggled to break free.
